JRF for antimalarial drug Discovery Project on “Discovering
Antimalarials from Marine Organisms (phase III): Bulk Recollection of
Promising Marine Organisms-Isolation, Purification, Characterization and
Chemical Synthesis of Marine derived Antimalarials”
This
multi institutional DBT project will use state of the art activity
guided HPLC purification of antiplasmodial molecules derived from
extracts of marine organisms. Screening of extracts and purified
molecules will be done in microtiter plate format by ex vivo culture of
Plasmodium falciparum strains in human red blood cells and inhibition of
growth of malaria parasite will be monitored by SYBR Green based
Fluorescence screen. Selectivity Indices will be determined by comparing
IC50 (Mammalian cell)/IC50 (P.falciparum). Only those with good
credentials in chromatography, Spectroscopy, Molecular Biology, Cell
biology, diligent habits of experiment documentation and aptitude for
