Research Position available in project (Max-­‐Planck partner group program by MPS Germany and DST India)

Applications are invited from suitable candidates for a research fellow position in the Department of Biological Sciences, Indian Institute for Science Education and Research Kolkata in the project,

The role of small-­‐RNA pathways in plant defense against insect herbivores” jointly funded by Department of Science and Technology (DST), India and the Max Planck Society (MPS), Germany.

Brief description: This project is an interdisciplinary project and involves both aspects of research, in-­silico biology (bioinformatics and systems biology) as well as experimental biology related to molecular biology, physiology and biochemistry.

Project would also involve fieldwork.

Duration: Initial appointment will be made for 6 months and upon satisfactory performance, extendable on a yearly basis for the duration of the project (3-­‐5 years).

Essential qualification: MSc (or equivalent) in any branch of science.

Desirable qualification: experience in any of the following areas: bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology, programming, software development, database development and management.

Candidates with experience in the area of molecular biology or plant biology or ecology would also be preferred. Applicants with extensive experience in ‘field work’ are also welcomed.
