WALK – IN – INTERVIEW to engage Research Fellows
The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier national autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoE&F), Government of India in the field of teaching, training and research. The WII wishes to engage 11 research personnel viz., 01-Research Associate; 02-Project Biologists, 01-Project Sociologist, 04-Junior Research Fellows, 01-Senior Research Fellow and 02-Senior Project Associates (Indian national only) through a walk-in-interview on Friday, 4th October 2013. The details of the available positions along with essential and desirable qualifications, terms and conditions and how to apply are given below:
Execution of Implementation Plan - Kailash Sacred Landscape Conservation and
Development Initiative (KSLCDI).
(01 – Research Associate)
Duration: Up to 31.12. 2013 (likely to be extended)
Essential  Qualification Ph.D. Degree in Zoology/Life Science/Botany/Wildlife Science/Environmental Science/ Forestry/Biological Science/Social sciences so far as it is relevant to studies in human dimensions aspect of wildlife management from a recognized University.
Desirable  Qualification 
§ Candidates with strong physical and mental abilities. Having a keen desire to  carryout arduous field work in the remote and rugged high altitudes of Uttarakhand Himalaya under extreme cold or rainy conditions with minimal logistic support.
Demonstrate ability to work in the field under harsh conditions.
§ Demonstrate a passion for wildlife research and field conservation.
§ Have published research work to his/her credit in reputed peer reviewed journals
and have already shown evidence of independent research work.
§ Experience of participation and organization of scientific conferences/ workshops/ meetings.
§ Field research experience relevant to wildlife science/ high altitude ecology/ landscape approach to conservation/ social sciences relevant to human dimension
of wildlife conservation.
§ Experience in basic wildlife field techniques and well conversant with data analysis,  ecological & statistical software.
Description of  Work
§ He/she will be responsible to carry out specific tasks/activities relevant to Project
Components assigned to him/her and submit periodic reports on such tasks.
§ He/ she will be responsible for coordination at hqrs and also in field with fellow  research personnel, participating supervisors, collaborators, and stakeholders.
§ Assist fellow researchers in Orientation, field data collection, data analysis,
synthesis, and report writing.
§ Assist Task Supervisors/ Project Coordinator/ Nodal officer in conduct of meetings, field training, workshops and conferences as envisaged in the project.
§ Prepare scientific papers, project reports, presentations and dissemination material/ project related outreach activities.
§ Assist in record keeping, assimilation of project information, and database
management.
§ Any other assignment by Project Authorities.

(02 – Project Biologists and 01 – Project Sociologist )

Essential Qualification Masters’ Degree in Zoology/Botany/Life Science/Wildlife Science/Forestry/Environmental Science/Social Sciences relevant to studies in human dimensions aspect of wildlife conservation with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.
Desirable Qualification
Given below are the desirable qualification(s) for two Project Biologists (one each in fish and insect) and One Project Sociologist (remote sensing and human dimensions)
§ Candidates with strong physical and mental abilities. Having a keen desire to carryout arduous field work in the remote and rugged high altitudes of Uttarakhand Himalaya under extreme cold or rainy conditions with minimal logistic support.
Demonstrate ability to work in the field under harsh conditions.
§ Demonstrate a passion for wildlife research and conservation.
§ Experience in basic wildlife field techniques (study design, sign surveys, line  transects, sampling, camera trapping, etc.) and conversant with data analysis,  ecological and statistical software.
§ Have relevant research experience and published research papers to his/ her  credit.
§ Experience of participation in scientific conferences/workshops/meetings.
§ Field research experience relevant to fish/insects/remote sensing/wildlife science/ high altitude ecology/landscape approach to conservation/ social sciences relevant to human dimension of wildlife conservation.
§ Prior experience of working with communities/Park people interface and related
aspects.
Description of  Work
§ He/she will be responsible to carry out specific tasks/activities relevant to Project
Components assigned to him/her and submit periodic reports on such tasks.
§ Field data collection, data analysis, synthesis, and report writing.
§ Assist Task Supervisors/ Project Coordinator/ Nodal officer in conduct of meetings,  field training, workshops and conferences as envisaged in the project.

project related outreach activities.

Monitoring land use by wildlife, livestock and humans in Khangchendzonga  Biosphere Reserve.
(01 – Junior Research Fellow)
Duration: Up to May 2014 (likely to be extended)
Essential  Qualification Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Biology/Zoology/Forestry/Botany with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.
Desirable Qualification
Field research experience in the field of wildlife biology/sociology or park-people  interface aspects/GIS. Ability to speak and understand Nepali language would be of advantage

Description of Work
This project aims to develop a spatial database on the land use patterns by wildlife,
livestock and humans in Khangchendzonga Biosphere Reserve and develop a programme for monitoring the use of wildlife, livestock and humans in Khangchendzonga Biosphere Reserve. This project involves extensive and field work in the remote, rugged, high altitude regions of Sikkim Himalayan region and also extensive lab work related to dietary analysis, molecular genetic studies, and computer based modeling analysis.
Ecology of leopard (Panthera pardus) in Sariska Tiger Reserve, Rajasthan.
(01 – Junior Research Fellow)
Project Duration: Up to 31.03.2016.
Essential Qualification
Masters’ Degree in Forestry/Forest Management/Wildlife Science/Environmental
Science with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.
Desirable Qualification
Experience in wild herbivore and carnivore population estimation and population
monitoring techniques.
Brief description of the project
The project aims to study ranging, movement patterns, habitat use and food habits of leopards, estimation of prey species, prepare habitat suitability map for leopard and its prey and suggest recommendations for effective management of leopard population in and around Sariska Tiger Reserve.
Ecology of lions with emphasis on the agro-pastoral landscape of Greater Gir Ecosystem.
(01 – Junior Research Fellow)
Project Duration: Up to 31st March 2014.

Masters Degree in Wildlife Science/Zoology/Botany/Life Science/Forestry/Veterinary Science with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.
Desirable Qualification
Demonstrated experience and interest in field oriented wildlife research, quantitative & analytical skills, good writing skills.
Brief description of the project
Work involves population monitoring of lions, ungulates, radio-telemetry based field work, with on foot research/behavioural observations on lions. Habitat Assessment and GIS & Remote Sensing work.
Ecology of the endangered Asiatic Lions using Satellite & GPS Telemetry – DST
Funded project.
(01 – Junior Research Fellow)
Project Duration: Three years.

Evaluation of MHC Hetrozygosity in Isolated Tiger Population.
(01 – Senior Research Fellow)
Project Duration: Up to 03.02.2015.
Essential Qualification
Masters Degree in Life Sciences (Biotechnology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Microbiology etc.) with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University with two year post M.Sc. research/teaching experience.
Desirable Qualification
Prior experiences a. in working knowledge of modern genetics/molecular biology lab experiments and b. experience in field work to collect biological samples.
Brief description of the project
To study the MHC variation between isolated verses connected tiger population. The researcher is expected to be highly motivated and have the ability to work in harsh environment involving biological sampling from field.
GBIF Project “Capacity Building in Biodiversity Informatics”.
(01 – Senior Project Associate)
Project Duration: One year.
Essential Qualification
Masters’ Degree in Environmental Science/Life Science/Wildlife Science/Biological
Science (Biodiversity informatics/Geo-informatics) with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized university.
Desirable Qualification
Some experience with research involving camera-traps/data management/biodiversity informatics/ Website development.
Brief description of the project
Preparing a database of camera trap images based on the GBIF data publishing
templates, developing content for the online camera-trap images database, preparing related publications.
Management Effectiveness Evaluation (MEE) Project.
(01 – Senior Project Associate)
Project Duration: One year.
Essential Qualification
Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/Forestry/Life Science/Biological Science with a
minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized university.
Desirable Qualification
Sound understanding of MEE process, good computing and report writing skills, knowledge of monitoring and evaluation, experience of working in Protected Areas.
Brief description of the project
Provide assistance to the MEE teams in data analyses, interpretation and preparation of reports and materials for dissemination.
