Postdoctoral Research Associate in Chemical Biology

School of Chemistry

Closing date: 23/09/2009
Reference: EPS/91076

Applications are invited for Postdoctoral Research Associate position to work with Prof Jason Micklefield in the Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre (http://www.mib.ac.uk/). This research aims to build on hits identified from a powerful combination of chemical and genetic selection that has provided a number of small molecules that can modulate gene expression through specific interactions with ‘riboswitches’ or aptamers located within the untranslated regions of both prokaryotic and eukaryotic mRNAs. The project is highly multidisciplinary, involving diverse aspects of chemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology.

Applications are encouraged from those with a relevant PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, biological sciences or a related discipline. Experience in any of the following (or related) areas would be advantageous: bio-organic chemistry and synthesis; biological chemistry; biochemistry; RNA; nucleic acid – small ligand interactions; biophysical techniques; basic molecular biology.

It is not expected that applicants will have experience in all of these areas, as a high level of interdisciplinary bioscience training and collaboration will be provided within the MIB.

The post is available from 1 October 2009 for 1 year.
