International PhD Programme
The IGBMC is one of the leading European centers for biomedical research, providing an outstanding research and training environment. We are committed to train students across all areas of molecular biology and expose them to the latest technology developments. The students spent three years with us, working on a dedicated research project as well as attending a diversity of lectures and practicals. Close collaborations with other research institutions in the “Parc d’Innovation” such as the adjacent MCI (Mouse Clinical Institute), the trinational biotechnology school ESBS (Ecole Supérieure de Biotechnologie Strasbourg ), the Faculty of Pharmacy as well as ISIS (Institut de Science et d'Ingénierie Supramoléculaires ) and the University of Strasbourg at large contribute to a very stimulating atmosphere. Naturally, with its 250 students and post-docs from over 30 nationalities, the IGBMC offers a very lively and dynamic setting, fostering interactions at IGBMC and beyond.
Students who join the IGBMC International PhD Programme receive funding during the complete duration of their graduate work.
Two types of financial support are available:
IGBMC Scholarships to work in the IGBMC research team of choice
National and European research grants of individual research teams
National and European research grants of individual research teams
The financial support is in accordance with the standard of the French Ministry of Research, and provides social benefits. Students are assisted by IGBMC's human resource office when settling in (ex. Lodging, VISA, social security).
The following IGBMC research teams have grant-funded positions :
Developmental Biology, Julien Vermot
Mecano-genetic interplays and embryonic morphogenesis
New group leader, Izabela Sumara
New group leader, Izabela Sumara
Functional characterization of Cul3 ubiquitination substrates
A description of each of the IGBMC research teams can be found here :
Eligibility
The IGBMC International PhD Programme is open to students worldwide. Candidates should hold a master degree in science or equivalent (5 years of higher education) to apply.
French nationals are encouraged to complete for funding through the Doctoral School fellowship programme. For more information, please visit : www-ed-sdvs.u-strasbg.fr/
Please note that students that have already been offered a PhD position in an IGBMC research team are not eligible for an IGBMC scholarship.
Selection procedure
Students are selected through a two-step selection process. The submitted applications are first evaluated by a committee composed of IGBMC team leaders. Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to visit the IGBMC in July for a round of interviews and discussions with team leaders and the selection committee. Candidates who passed successfully the interview session will receive an offer of admission, which they have to confirm by mid-August. Students have to start their PhD within six months of the admission date. IGBMC will provide accommodation and will reimburse travel expenses (receipts must be provided) as follows:
