  1. SENIOR RESEARCH BIOLOGIST – 01 POSITION
    • Project Title: Rejuvenation of storm water drain and restoration of holding ponds in Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation area. (Duration- 01 year; Project PI- Dr. Goldin Quadros)
    • Essential Qualifications: 1) Post graduate degree with minimum 55% in either Zoology, Botany or Environmental Sciences. 2) Minimum three years field work experience with minimum of one year in coastal intertidal region.
    • Desirable: 1) Minimum 3 publications in SCI journals. 2) Proficiency in spoken Hindi and Marathi languages 3) Knowledge on basic computer office softwares

    • Description of Work: The project involves both field and Laboratory work. Field work will involve field observations and sample collection in the coastal swampy intertidal areas. SRB will have the responsibility of coordinating with the local officials including village community, compiling data, drafting the report and any other work that will be required in the field. The JRB will help in the field sampling and laboratory analysis and also assist the SRB in the smooth functioning of the project. The team will have to invest equal amount of time in field and laboratory.

    • Desirable: 1) Bird identification skills, 2) Communication skills in Hindi and English

    • Description of Work: The project involves both fieldwork and report writing. The selected candidate is expected to conduct bird/wildlife and landuse surveys in and around Varanasi International Airport and assist the Investigators in other project related activities.

Applications are invited from suitable candidates for filling up the purely temporary positions of (1) One Junior Research Fellow/Project Associate-I in the NIPGR Short-Term Fellowship (STRF), and (2) One Junior Research Fellow/Project Associate-I in the DBT Multi-institutional project “Characterization of chickpea germplasm resource to accelerate genomics-assisted crop improvement”, under mission programme of “Characterization of genetic resources”, under the supervision of Dr. Senthil-Kumar Muthappa, Scientist, NIPGR.

Eligibility Criteria: 

(1) Junior Research Fellow/Project Associate-I under STRF (One Post): Candidates having Master’s degree in Plant science/Agriculture/life sciences with at least 55% (or equivalent) can apply. The candidate is required to have sound theoretical knowledge in plant-stress biology and excellent scientific writing skills. Subject comprehension in the area of plant responses to combined stresses and experience of using large-scale text mining techniques are preferred. The project involves mining and curation of literature, retrieval/analysis of desired information for the development of ‘plant combined stress’ database. 

(2) Junior Research Fellow/Project Associate-I under chickpea mission project (One Post): Candidates having Master’s degree in bioinformatics/computational biology/statistics/mathematics/Agriculture/life sciences with at least 55% (or equivalent) marks can apply. This project involves screening chickpea germplasm for dry root rot disease (DRR). 

The project work requires skills for image analysis for disease detection/assessment (neural network/deep learning) and digital disease scoring (computer vision/machine learning/Python), and other related works. Experience in database/online platform development (HTML/CSS scripting, MySQL/PHP/Javascript, R and fluency in linux) is preferred. 

For both the positions of JRF/PA-I, candidates with NET and also those who qualify as per the criteria mentioned in the DST Office Memorandum number SR/S9/Z-08/2018 dated January 30, 2019 and SR/S9/Z-05/2019 dated July 10, 2020 are eligible to apply. The upper age limit for PA-I will be 35 years. The above positions are completely on temporary basis and co-terminus with the project. The fellowship/emolument amount for the above positions are as sanctioned in the project and as per NIPGR/DBT/DST norms. The initial appointment will be for one year or till the tenability of the project whichever is earlier and the same can be curtailed/extended on the basis of assessment of the candidate's performance and discretion of the Competent Authority. 

NIPGR reserves the right to select the candidate against the above post depending upon the qualification and experience of the candidate. Reservation of posts shall be as per Govt. of India norms. The appointment may be terminated any time by giving one month notice by either side. The applicants will have no claim implicit or explicit for consideration against any regular position of NIPGR.

INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship (A component under INSPIRE) 

Call for Applications under INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship - (2022) 

Under “Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)” scheme of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, opportunities are provided to meritorious young Indian students to study basic and natural sciences at the college and university level and to pursue research careers in both basic and applied science areas including engineering, medicine, agriculture and veterinary sciences. 

INSPIRE includes multiple components out of which the INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship component offers post-doctoral fellowships to young achievers with Ph.D. qualification in the age group of 27-32 years for 5 years to carry out post-doctoral research in both basic and applied science areas including engineering, medicine, agriculture and veterinary sciences. 

Applications are invited for the year 2022, from eligible candidates under INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship component of INSPIRE scheme of DST through the web-portal https://www.onlineinspire.gov.in 

A) Eligibility: 

i) Essential: 

➢ Indian citizens and People of Indian origin with PIO status having Ph.D. degree (in science, mathematics, engineering, pharmacy, medicine and agriculture related subjects) from any recognized university in the world. 
➢ Candidates should possess a minimum of 60% (or equivalent CGPA) marks throughout their academic profile starting from the Senior Secondary Examination (Class 12 onwards). 
➢ Those who have submitted their Ph.D. theses and are awaiting the award of degree shall also be eligible. However, selection for the Fellowship will be confirmed only after the Ph.D. degree is awarded. 
➢ The upper age limit as on 1st Jan 2022 is 32 years for General Category. However, for SC/ST/Women candidates, the upper age limit will be 37 years on the said date. For persons with benchmark disabilities (Divyangjan with not less than 40 percent of a specified disability), the upper age limit will be 42 years. 
➢ Publication(s) in highly reputed journals demonstrating outstanding research potential of the candidate. 
➢ Candidates who are employed in regular/contractual positions within India may also apply for INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship for improvement and enhancement in their career prospects but, upon selection, the candidates will need to resign (no lien or deputation or any type of leave would be accepted) from the current job and organization before taking up the INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship. The candidates, who get selected for regular position in any institute/university after submission of IFF application, would be entitled to receive the Research Grant only as INSPIRE Faculty Fellows. 

ii) Desirable: Candidates who are within top 1% in Class 12 examination, IIT-JEE rank holders, 1st rank holders either in graduation or post-graduation level university examinations. 

Fellowship: Each selected INSPIRE Faculty Fellow will be eligible to receive a consolidated amount of Rs.1,25,000/- per month as fellowship with annual increment of Rs.2,000/-. In addition, a Research Grant of Rs.7.0 lakh every year for 5 years will also be provided to each successful candidate. The consolidated amount of Rs.1,25,000 per month is an all-inclusive fellowship and taxable as per the Indian IT Act. 

The INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship is for a maximum period of 5(five) years. No Fellow should avail two fellowships concurrently during the tenure of this Fellowship period.
