ICAR International Fellowships


Netaji Subhas - ICAR International Fellowships 
1. Objectives: In its continued efforts towards enhancing and sustaining the standards, quality and relevance of higher agricultural education in the country, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) here-in-after, referred as the Council, has instituted International Fellowships with dual purpose of 
(i) human resource development in cutting edge technologies, and 
(ii) demonstrating the strength of Indian agricultural system abroad. 
The objective is to develop competent human resource that are trained in the identified best laboratories in the world (for Indian candidates) and similarly expose overseas candidates to the best Indian Agricultural Universities (AUs) in the ICAR-AU system (comprising of State Agricultural Universities, Central Agricultural Universities (CAUs), ICAR-Deemed Universities, Allahabad Agricultural Institute-DU, Central Universities having agricultural faculty) for creating a pool of scientist-envoys for enhanced future co-operation. 
2. Title: The fellowship is named as “Netaji Subhas - ICAR International Fellowship (NSICAR IF)” and the awardee will be called “NS-ICAR International Fellow”. 
3. Purpose: The NS-ICAR IFs are available to support Indian/ Overseas nationals for pursuing doctoral degree in agriculture and allied sciences, in the identified priority areas, to the 
 Indian candidates for study abroad in the identified overseas Universities/Institutions having strong research and teaching capabilities and 
 Overseas candidates for study in the best Indian AUs in the ICAR-AUs system.
 4. Location: For study in the identified institutions having strong research and teaching capabilities and adequate strength in terms of faculty and infrastructure facilities, the NS ICAR-IFs are tenable at: 
 identified overseas institutions in case of Indian candidates and 
 identified Indian Agricultural Universities (AUs) from ICAR-AU system in India in case of overseas candidates. 
5. Tenure of Fellowship: 
5.1. The NS-ICAR IFs are available to Indian candidates as well as overseas candidates for a period of three years. 
5.2. The tenure of fellowship will not be extended in any case, in so far as the Council support is concerned. 
5.3. In case the fellow is not able to complete his/her degree during this period, he/she will use his/her own resources for completing the degree. 
5.4. In case the fellow is not able to complete even after 2 years of the prescribed duration of the programme for which fellowship was sanctioned, the Council may take necessary steps, for the recovery of the fellowship paid. 
6. Number of Fellowships: Number of fellowships available every year for a programme leading to Ph.D. degree under this scheme will be thirty (30). The allocation of fellowships between Indian and Overseas candidates will depend upon the availability of good candidates in the identified priority areas. 

7. Eligibility: 
7.1. Master’s degree in agriculture/allied sciences with an Overall Grade Point Average (OGPA) 6.60 out of 10.0 or 65% marks or equivalent will be the eligibility requirement for the NS-ICAR IFs. 
7.2. The fresh candidates should not be more than 35 years of age on the last date prescribed for receipt of applications. The upper age limit for In-service candidates will be 40 years on the last date for receipt of applications. 
7.3. The notification for fellowship will contain the detailed eligibility requirements. 
7.4. Netaji Subhas- ICAR IF would be available for both, fresh and in-service candidates. However, the fresh candidates should have completed their qualifying degree not more than two years before the specified date in the year of admission. The inservice candidates from India should be employed in the ICAR-AU system. 
7.5. The Council will identify and announce the priority areas of research and the list of institutions for admission, one year in advance, for availing the Netaji Subhas- ICAR IFs. 
8. Mode of Application: 
8.1. The candidate should submit an application for the fellowship, on-line, in the prescribed format. 
8.2. The area of study and the line of the proposed research work should be in the identified priority area relevant to Indian/Global agriculture as identified by the Council and the same shall be notified one year in advance. 
8.3. The applicant shall provide two references along with their contact Email addresses, in support of his application, who may be directly contacted by the Council for obtaining comments in the prescribed format on his candidature. One of the two referees should preferably be his/her supervisor in the current occupation (if employed) and one who is an expert in the area and well acquainted with the candidate’s work. 
8.4. The applicants for the ICAR-IF must obtain at their own level, an acceptance of their admission in the Ph.D. degree programmes with identified area of study at the identified Indian AUs in case of overseas applicants and the identified overseas institutions in case of Indian applicants. Such acceptance letters should preferably be enclosed with the application for the fellowship. 
8.5. The candidates should satisfy themselves regarding admission and course requirements of the university before identifying these as a place of study. 
8.6. Applications for NS-ICAR IFs will be invited on annual basis through announcements published in Indian national newspapers and the notification on ICAR website “http://www.icar.org.in”. Indian diplomatic missions in foreign countries will also be informed through e-mails. 
9. Mode of Selection: 
9.1. The candidates will be evaluated based on parameters/weighted scale thereby taking into account the relevance of the area of study, the proposed research plan, academic records, achievements and past work experience of the candidate. 
9.2. The selection will be made on the basis of evaluation score and subsequent interview by a Selection Committee, constituted by the Council and duly empowered to judge the suitability of candidate with regard to the importance of the area of study and the proposed research plan. The Committee may also decide to conduct telephonic/teleconferencing interview for the purpose. The overseas candidates may even be interviewed by experts as identified by the Council who may be based in their home country. 
9.3. The candidate should have clear record of good conduct all-through, duly certified by the Competent Authority of the University last attended or the present employer in case of in-service candidate. 
9.4. At the time of interview, the applicants must furnish a letter of acceptance for their admission in the respective degree programme at the University. 
9.5. The in-service Indian candidates must also furnish deputation approval by their respective Director of ICAR Institutes/Vice-Chancellor of Agricultural Universities. 
9.6. Once selected, the candidates must register for the programme within one year from the date of issue of letter of fellowship award. In case of delay, the offer will get terminated automatically and no separate communication towards cancellation will be issued by the Council. 
10. Fellowship Amount and Contingencies: The fellow will be entitled to the following: 
10.1. To-and-fro, economy class air ticket for international travel, by the shortest route, from the airport, nearest to the residence/ work place of the candidate to the airport, nearest to the destination University in respect of both Indian and Overseas candidates (Air tickets to be provided by the Council). 
10.2. The overseas fellows will be entitled for economy-class-travel cost reimbursement from port of arrival in India to the destination University in India and back. 
10.3. For Indian candidates, the cost on travel from place of residence/work to the port of departure in India and from port of arrival to the destination University overseas will be met by the fellows themselves or by their host organization. 
10.4. Amount payable to the International fellowship candidates: Ph.D. Amount not exceeding Lump-sum payments towards contingent and preparatory expenses Indian fellows going abroad US$ 2,000/- per month US$ 1,000/- per year Overseas fellows in India INR 40,000/- per month INR 25,000/- per year 
10.5. The fellowship amount for the first installment, will be released by the Council to the fellow through government notified/ approved bank to be deposited in the bank account of the fellow on receiving his/ her acceptance for the fellowship and admission letter received from the host University. 
10.6. Thereafter, the amount of fellowship will be released to the fellow, after receiving the academic progress report from the fellow duly certified by the concerned advisor/ supervisor/ head of institution. 
10.7. The first installment to the Indian fellow will be paid in Indian Rupees only. 
10.8. The fellow will meet all other costs including medical insurance etc. from the above fellowship or from his/ her own resources. 
10.9. During the tenure of fellowship, an in-service fellow may continue to receive his/her salary, types of leave and benefits etc. from the parent organization as per rules.

1. Bank Guarantee and Service Bond: 
11.1 (i) Indian selected fellows shall provide an irrevocable Bank guarantee for an amount of US$ 10,000/- (equivalent in rupee currency) in favour of the Secretary, ICAR. The Bank guarantee should be valid for the entire duration till the successful completion of the programme. 
(ii) For foreign national selected fellows, an amount of Rs. 2,00,000 will be recovered from their fellowship grant as alternate of Bank guaranty, in terms of Rs. 1,00,000 each from first and second installment till successful completion of their Ph.D. study programme. This fellowship amount of Rs. 2,00,000 will be paid to the fellow at the time of final release of fellowship”. 
11.2 The Indian in-service candidates selected for international fellowship shall execute a bond with the deputing University/Institute to undertake to serve that institution after the completion of degree for at least three years. 
12 Continuance of the Fellowship: 
12.1 The fellow will submit his progress report to the Council, through his/her adviser/supervisor/ head of the institution every six months. 
 12.2 During the tenure of fellowship, the fellow should neither change the place of work nor deviate from the broad research area for which the fellowship is sanctioned. The selected candidates shall be required to submit an Undertaking to this effect and also for adherence to the other conditions of the guidelines regulating the fellowship as prescribed by the ICAR, with the acceptance of the International Fellowship. 
12.3 The fellow will devote his/ her full time for his/ her chosen area of studies/ research work during the tenure of his/ her fellowship. 
12.4 Satisfactory progress in studies will be essential for the continuance of the fellowship during the period of study as reflected by the grades secured and certification by the advisor/ supervisor. 
12.5 In case of unsatisfactory performance in studies, or conduct probation, the fellowship will be terminated with immediate effect and the fellow will be required to meet the expenditure on remaining part of the programme from his/her own resources. 
12.6 This fellowship is not meant for the conduct of training or to carry out research of short duration. 
12.7 Research Experiment and data collection at Indian SAUs/Institutions located in India. 
(i) The fellows, who are required to put experiments at Indian SAUs/Institutes located in India and data collection from the Indian location, may be allowed for a maximum period of one-and-a-half-year as per their research plan. 
(ii) With the consent of their Advisor and prior approval of ICAR, they may undertake interim visits to India on their own resources. ICAR will not provide any financial support on travelling for the purpose. 
(iii) During the stay in India, they will be eligible for fellowships @ Rs. 40,000/- per month plus contingent and preparatory expenses @ Rs. 25,000/- per annum, as the same amount which is offered to foreign national fellows doing Ph.D in India under the scheme. 
(iv) The period of absence from host university and stay in Indian university/Institute need to be authenticated/verified by the identified Advisor and Co-Advisor respectively. 
13 Medical Fitness: Selected fellow would be required to get his/ her medical fitness test and medical insurance done at his/her own cost. 
14 Payment of Fee: All fees chargeable by the host institution where the fellow is enrolled will be paid by the fellow himself out of the fellowship grant or from his/ her own resources. 
15 IPR Issues: The fellow is expected to take proper measures to protect the Intellectual Property Rights likely to be generated during his/ her stay in the host institution. The Council will have the appropriate share on the patents/ knowledge generated by the fellow while pursuing the programme as specified under IP Management bulletin. If the fellow enters into any other IP agreement, the same will be appropriately shared with the Council. In all publications arising out of this work, the support from the Council should be duly acknowledged. 
16 Completion Report from Netaji Subhas-ICAR IF: Both Indian and Overseas fellows will have to submit within 15 days of their completion of the program, a copy of the dissertation/thesis and a brief report on the activities undertaken including any significant research contribution to the Council. 
17 Non-return of Indian Fellows to India: The Indian Fellows have to return back to India after completion of the Ph.D. degree. If the fresh Indian Fellow is offered a suitable position in ICAR-AU system, he/she shall serve the ICAR-AU system. In case of non-compliance to these provisions, entire amount paid to the Fellow along with 10% overhead cost will be recovered by the Council from the Fellow himself or from his surety, failing which, the Indian Embassy in the host country will be informed to take appropriate action. 
18 Budget Head for Expenditure: The expenditure on the NS-ICAR International fellowships, contingent grant and travel expenses will be met from the Council from the Plan budget-head “ICAR International/overseas fellowships”. 
19 Review of the Netaji Subhas-ICAR international fellowship Scheme: The ICAR international fellowship scheme along with the fellowship amount and its guidelines will be subject to periodic reviews, as deemed fit by the Council. 
20 General: 
20.1 For any clarification regarding the NS-ICAR IFs, the Assistant Director General (EQR), Education Division, ICAR, New Delhi may be contacted. 
20.2 Secretary, ICAR and Additional Secretary DARE will be the final authority in resolving and taking decision on any situation/case of conflict and his decision shall be binding on all parties concerned. 
20.3 For any dispute, the applicable law will be the Indian law under the jurisdiction of Courts in Delhi only.

A. SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: MSc/BE/B. Tech or equivalent degree with at least 55% marks and one publication in Science Citation Indexed (SCI) Journal and should have completed at least two years of post MSc/BE/B. Tech research experience as on the last date of application, as evidenced from fellowship/ associateship or from date of registration for Ph.D. OR 
M.Tech/ME or equivalent degree in engineering/technology with at least 60% marks. OR 
BE/B. Tech or equivalent degree with at least 60% marks and two years research experience as on the last date of application. OR

Those who have been awarded PhD/MD/MS/MDS degree or have submitted their thesis for the award of PhD/MD/MS/MDS degrees are not eligible for the position of SRF. Those who are eligible for RA will not be considered for SRF. 
EMPLOYED CANDIDATES: These fellowships are held on a full time basis. Therefore simultaneous employment elsewhere is not permitted. However, those desirous of pursuing higher studies, but employed presently, whether temporary or permanent may apply with an undertaking that if selected, they will resign from the job before taking up the fellowship. The application will be rejected if the undertaking is not enclosed. 
STIPEND AND TENURE: Rs. 35000/- per month during entire tenure of fellowship or date of PhD viva-voce whichever is earlier. In addition, each SRF will receive a contingent grant of a maximum Rs. 20,000/-p.a. The grant will be provided to the University/Institution with which the SRF will be affiliated. SRFs will be given Rs. 3000/- (lump sum) extra on submission of Ph.D thesis in e-form. SRF will be tenable initially for a period of two years. The term is extendable by one year on the basis of assessment of the progress already made as judged by three member assessment committee. Those who have held or are holding equivalent fellowships awarded under various schemes of all India grant giving agencies such as DST, DBT, ICMR, UGC, ICAR etc. may apply subject to the condition that the total tenure inclusive of CSIR fellowship shall not exceed three years. Those who have already availed, or would have availed by 31st March 2020, JRF for 5 years or SRF for 3 years from any source need not apply. The combined tenure of JRF, if any, and SRF will not exceed five years. SRF will be terminated from the date of PhD viva voce or completion of tenure whichever is earlier. Those who are already holding equivalent fellowship should specify the reason for applying. The application is likely to be rejected if the reason is not specified.

B. RESEARCH ASSOCIATESHIPS: 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: 
1. PhD (in a science or engineering subject) or MD/MS/MDS (in medical science subject) or ME/MTech/MPharm/MVSc with three years R&D experience as on the last date of application, evidenced from fellowship or associateship or from date of registration of PhD. 
2. PhD (science/engineering) thesis submitted is also eligible for RA’ship. Selection in such cases will be subject to the condition that PhD viva-voce done & declared qualified for award of PhD/awarded PhD degree before the expiry of the validity of the award offer. 
3. The candidate applying for Research Associateship must have at least one research publication in standard refereed journal as listed in Journal Citation Reports (JCR).

C. OTHER CONDITIONS/INFORMATION 

AGE LIMIT: Senior Research Fellow (SRF) : Maximum 32 years as on the last date of application. Research Associate (RA) : Maximum 35 years as on the last date of application. INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship Scheme: a component under INSPIRE. 

The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, has launched the “Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)” [http://www.inspire-dst.gov.in] program in 2008. The program which encompasses the age group of 15-35 years aims to attract young Indian talent for study of science leading to careers in science. INSPIRE includes four components out of which the INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship Scheme offers a contractual research award to young achievers and opportunity for independent research in the near term and emerge as a future leader in the long term.
A) Eligibility 
Essential 
 Indian citizens and people of Indian origin including NRI/PIO status with PhD (in science, mathematics, engineering, pharmacy, medicine and agriculture related subjects) from any recognized university in the world.
 Candidates shall possess minimum 60% (or equivalent CGPA) marks throughout his/her academic profile starting from the Higher Secondary examination (Class 12 onwards).
 Those who have submitted their Ph.D theses and are awaiting award of the degree are also eligible. However, the award will be conveyed only after confirmation of the award of the Ph.D degree.
 The upper age limit as on 1 st Jan 2019 should be 32 years for considering support for a period of 5 years. However, for SC and ST candidates, the upper age limit will be 35 years.
 Publication(s) in highly reputed Journals demonstrating research potential of the candidate.
 Candidates who are employed in regular/contractual position within India may apply for INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship Award towards improvement and enhancement of their career prospects but upon selection the candidate will need to resign (no lien or deputation or any type of leave would be accepted) from the current job and organization for implementation of the INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship Award.

Desirable 
 Candidates who are within top 1% at the School Leaving Examination, IIT-JEE rank holders, 1st Rank Holder either in graduation or post-graduation level university examination (which are used presently for identifying INSPIRE Scholars at under-graduate level and INSPIRE Fellows for doctoral degree).

B) Mode of Application: 
 Two routes i.e. Direct and Nomination are available for application on the online portal by the eligible candidates.
 Candidates, who intend to apply through Direct or Nomination mode, may apply only online. Detailed guidelines are available on the website: www.online- inspire.gov.in and follow the process prescribed therein. After submission of application online, the candidate may obtain a print of the application thus submitted for personal use only.
 Nominations from academic institutions or Industry R&D Centers can also be sent through Vice-Chancellors/ Directors of Institutions/ Head of Institutions/ Presidents and Fellows of Science Academies or Eminent Scientists from India and abroad based on personal knowledge. Nominations to be sent to Indian National Science Academy (INSA), New Delhi.
 Eligible candidates who wish themselves to be considered in Direct (A) or Nomination (B) route, may fill the online application on the web portal given above for consideration.

C) Method of Selection 
 The Indian National Science Academy (INSA), New Delhi, in coordination with DST, will be implementing this INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship Scheme up to the selection of candidates for award of INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship Award.
 A three-tier selection process i.e. Discipline-based Expert Committee in case of candidates under Direct and Nomination modes/routes which is followed by selection through Apex Level Committee and finally INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship Council selects the candidates in both the two modes.
 Discipline-wise committees of INSA would evaluate and screen the candidates who wish to apply under the Direct and Nomination Routes without support from host-institutions.
 The Apex Committee shall finally select short-listed candidates for offering INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship Award under this Scheme and decision of the Apex Committee for selecting candidates in this Scheme shall further be considered at the INSPIRE Faculty Council whose decision will be final for offer of INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship.
 Candidates, who have not identified host institutions at the time of their application, should do so immediately after their final selection. All selected candidates should avail the INSPIRE Faculty Award within 3 months of their final selection.

D) Amount & Duration of each INSPIRE Faculty position 
 Each selected INSPIRE Faculty Fellow shall be eligible to receive a consolidated amount of Rs.1,25,000/- pm. In addition, a Research Grant of Rs.7 lakh per year for 5 years shall also be provided to each successful candidate.
 The selected INSPIRE Faculty fellows in case of their joining in private academic/research institute will receive only Research Grant and their respective host institute /university has to pay the fellowship amount equal to the scheme norms.
 The INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship Award is for a maximum period of 5 (five) years.
 Each INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship Awardee shall be regulated as per guidelines available at website: www.online-inspire.gov.in. Candidates need to visit the websites and read the guidelines for reference before applying in INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship Award scheme.
 In case the INSPIRE Faculty Fellow finds a permanent position during the tenure of the Fellowship, the Fellowship amount shall be discontinued from the day the INSPIRE Faculty Fellow joins in permanent position but he/she may continue with the INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship Scheme availing Research Grant for the remaining period to carry out research at the new position.
 The INSPIRE Faculty Fellow is eligible to apply for any competitive grants from funding agencies during the tenure of the INSPIRE Faculty Fellow position.

E) Roles and requirements of Host Institutions 
 Host institutions should be encouraged to provide a congenial atmosphere for the awardees to excel in their work, and should view them as potential assets for faculty development.
 Under no circumstances the “INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship” Award is renewable after 5 years. Host-institutions are expected to consider “INSPIRE Faculty Fellows” for permanent positions in due course, subject to meeting institutions performance assessment criteria.
 Under nomination mode, in-breeding by host-institution is generally not encouraged. However, in case host-institutions are willing to nominate their own Ph.D students under this Scheme, specific justifications and commitment for development of independent directions of research should be clearly delineated.
 Host institutes should ensure access to all common infrastructural facilities, acceptable laboratory and office space (independently or on shared basis), computing facilities, access to library etc., to INSPIRE Faculty Fellows.  Host institutes should ensure that desirable new areas/directions of research are being introduced through this scheme.
 Host institutes should provide information on whether the INSPIRE Faculty Fellow will be allowed to supervise Ph.D students, hire research fellows, independently or jointly with a permanent faculty member while hosting the Faculty fellows.

A. SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: MSc/BE/B. Tech or equivalent degree with at least 55% marks and one publication in Science Citation Indexed (SCI) Journal and should have completed at least two years of post MSc/BE/B. Tech research experience as on the last date of application, as evidenced from fellowship/ associateship or from date of registration for Ph.D. OR 

M.Tech/ME or equivalent degree in engineering/technology with at least 60% marks. OR 

BE/B. Tech or equivalent degree with at least 60% marks and two years research experience as on the last date of application. OR 

MBBS/BDS or equivalent with at least 60% marks and one year internship. OR 

BPharm/BVSc/BSc(Ag) or equivalent degree with at least 55% marks and one publication in SCI Journal and should have completed at least three years research experience as on the last date of application, evidenced from fellowship/associateship or from date of registration for Ph.D. OR

Those who have been awarded PhD/MD/MS/MDS degree or have submitted their thesis for the award of PhD/MD/MS/MDS degrees are not eligible for the position of SRF. Those who are eligible for RA will not be considered for SRF. 

EMPLOYED CANDIDATES: These fellowships are held on a full time basis. Therefore simultaneous employment elsewhere is not permitted. However, those desirous of pursuing higher studies, but employed presently, whether temporary or permanent may apply with an undertaking that if selected, they will resign from the job before taking up the fellowship. The application will be rejected if the undertaking is not enclosed. 

STIPEND AND TENURE: Rs. 35000/- per month during entire tenure of fellowship or date of PhD viva-voce whichever is earlier. In addition, each SRF will receive a contingent grant of a maximum Rs. 20,000/-p.a. The grant will be provided to the University/Institution with which the SRF will be affiliated. SRFs will be given Rs. 3000/- (lump sum) extra on submission of Ph.D thesis in e-form. SRF will be tenable initially for a period of two years. The term is extendable by one year on the basis of assessment of the progress already made as judged by three member assessment committee. Those who have held or are holding equivalent fellowships awarded under various schemes of all India grant giving agencies such as DST, DBT, ICMR, UGC, ICAR etc. may apply subject to the condition that the total tenure inclusive of CSIR fellowship shall not exceed three years. Those who have already availed, or would have availed by 31st March 2020, JRF for 5 years or SRF for 3 years from any source need not apply. The combined tenure of JRF, if any, and SRF will not exceed five years. SRF will be terminated from the date of PhD viva voce or completion of tenure whichever is earlier. Those who are already holding equivalent fellowship should specify the reason for applying. The application is likely to be rejected if the reason is not specified.

DBT Invites Applications for Har-Gobind Khorana-Innovative Young Biotechnologist Award (IYBA) 2019 | RS 1 Lakh Per Year


IYBA is an attractive Research Award to identify and nurture outstanding young scientists up to 35 years of age with innovative ideas and desirous of pursuing research in frontier areas of Biotechnology/ Biotechnology-related fields. Scientists without regular employment are also eligible for this award. The award consists of Research grant for the proposed innovative project and a fellowship of Rs 75,000 per month for 3 years for those awardees who are not in regular employment. Association of a mentor (senior faculty/scientist in a university, research institute, medical/agriculture/veterinary college or any other research institute of repute) is mandatory for those applicants who are not in regular positions. The mentor should agree to provide laboratory space and other needed facilities for implementing the proposed research work. 

How to Apply:

Applicants having regular (permanent) employment will receive a cash award of Rs 100,000 (Rupees One Lakh only) per year for a period of 3 years in addition to Research grant. The application must be forwarded by the head of the institute or duly designated competent authority. Dr Reddy’s Sashakt Scholarship 2019 for BSc Women Students | Rs 2,40,000

The Sashakt Scholarship

Sashakt Scholarship is a one-of-its-kind initiative to encourage young women across India to prepare for and pursue a career in science. It provides a level playing ground to girl students, especially from rural India and low socio-economic backgrounds, to get access to quality education in some of India’s best science institutions by offering financial support and mentorship throughout their undergraduate studies.

The scholarship covers all three years of study towards earning a B.Sc. degree. 

With a lead woman scientists as mentor, the scholars are guided through the crucial stages of their education, apart from having a role model for a career in science. 

Limited scholarships available, for students securing admissions in any of the 12 listed science colleges. 

The scholarship award is Rs 2,40,000 (Rs 80,000/year) for three years of study, which covers the college tuition fees, study expenses and basic living costs.

Terms & Conditions
  • The Scholarship is open for studies in the designated colleges in India and for Indian Nationals only.
  • The Candidates applying for the scholarship under this program should be applying for B.Sc.(Natural Sciences), first year, during the academic year 2019-20.
  • The amount of Scholarship that will be provided under this program will be a maximum of Rs.80,000/- per student, per academic year and the scholarship amount will be towards tuition fees, books and living expenses.
  • Candidates will be required to upload documents, e.g. Income Tax Returns of their parents/guardian(s) or in the alternative, Bank Statements of parents/guardian(s) or Income Certificate issued by Government.
  • While the final acceptance of the proposed candidates is on the basis of internal due diligence and checks done by the Sashakt Selection Panel, it will be at all times subject to its management decision.
  • The final disbursement of Scholarship amount to the applicant shall be on the basis of the fee receipt evidencing part payment, submitted by the applicant. All fee receipts shall be retained with the beneficiaries and submitted along with other documents for availing the Scholarship for the consecutive academic year, as the case may be.
  • The candidates who are selected for the Scholarship will be intimated by Sashakt via email.
  • DRF reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to the fullest extent permitted by law: (a) to reject or disqualify any application; or (b) subject to any written directions from a regulatory authority, to modify, suspend, terminate or cancel the scholarship, as appropriate.
  • The Scholarship Application is open to only those desirous candidates who have all the requisite documents at the time of making the Application.
  • DRF reserves the right, to use the photograph /profile of the scholarship applicant/beneficiary for future publication use; and/or disclosures; and/or for communication purposes with DRF’s stakeholders as this initiative is under Dr. Reddy’s Foundation; and/or for submissions before various authorities and interested parties from time to time for reporting progress thereof; and/or for use in Corporate brochures, websites, social media, archives and other material publicity, if any in relation to it’s activities.
  • The students who receive the Scholarship should be regular in attendance and pass all performance yardsticks as decided by the competent authority of the school/college/University as also abide by the rules and regulations of such Institute.
  • The Scholarship shall be cancelled/ discontinued forthwith and the amount of the scholarship paid shall be recovered, at the discretion of the concerned department of DRF if
    • (a) A student is found to have obtained a Scholarship by false statement/ certificates.
    • (b) A student violates any of the terms and conditions of the Scholarship.
    • (c) A student does not attend classes of the course or is found to be in serious violation of the Institutes’ Rules and Regulations.
    • (d) Fails to obtain and maintain minimum performance/passing standard as required by the University Authorities and/or affiliates.
    • (e) Any misconduct on the part of the beneficiary, decision whereof will be at the sole discretion of the Selection Panel of DRF
  • This Scheme and Scholarship shall be evaluated at regular intervals by DRF and terms and conditions thereof may be modified, withdrawn or cancelled at the discretion of the Selection Panel of DRF.
  • DRF reserves its right to independently verify and assess the claims made by candidates/beneficiaries regarding their family financial status and other criteria.
  • This is a beneficiary scheme of DRF and is not as a matter of right to be claimed by candidates of economically weaker sections of society or otherwise. SreePVF Vijayawada Offering Research Grant (Rs 3 crores) in the Area of Biological Sciences

Award of a Competitive Research Grant in the Area of Biological Sciences 

The Sree Padmavathi Venkateswara Foundation (SreePVF), Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, incorporated under Section 7(2) and Rule 8 of the Government of India Companies Rule 2014, is a private Foundation which has been supporting excellence in medical education and care through a variety of methods. It has also been offering awards, donations and grants to individuals and institutions, societies and foundations, whose aims and activities are in tune with those of the Foundation. Recognizing that in addition to the government, Private Foundations and Trusts should also support research and technology through grants, 

SreePVF has decided to award three-year research grants (of up to a total of Rs 3 crores) for individuals and groups engaged in the broad areas of biological and chemical sciences. 

As a first step in this direction, SreePVF invites applications for the award of one such grant in the area of biological sciences. A team of well known experts in biological sciences has kindly agreed to help the Foundation in reviewing the applications and select the one most suited for the grant. 

Applications for a three-year grant are invited from interested individuals and teams. 

The upper age limit for the Principal Investigator is 50. The application format is the same as that of the Department of Biotechnology, India.

Science & SciLifeLab Prize for Young Scientists


The Science & SciLifeLab Prize for Young Scientists is a global prize, established in 2013, aimed at rewarding scientists at an early stage of their careers. Science/AAAS and SciLifeLab, a coordinated effort of four universities, have joined forces in creating the Science & SciLifeLab Prize for Young Scientists to recognize excellence amongst young researchers from around the world. The Prize was created to recognize that global economic health is dependent upon a vibrant research community and we need to encourage our best and brightest to continue in their chosen fields of research. Considering the difficult economic environment,  it is important to provide extra encouragement to young scientists as they begin their scientific careers.
The international Prize is awarded annually to four young scientists for outstanding life science research for which he/she earned a doctoral degree in the previous two years. Each year, a Grand Prize winner is selected from the applicants to receive 30,000 USD in prize money. The three other category winners are awarded 10,000 USD each for their accomplishments. Science/AAAS and SciLifeLab look forward to reviewing the research findings from future entrants.
The grand prize winning essay will be published in Science and essays from the three category winners will be published online.
In addition, all four winners of the Science & SciLifeLab Prize for Young Scientists will be invited to Sweden in December to take part in in a unique week of events in honor of science – with the opportunity to meet with leading researchers in their field. The annual award ceremony and banquet is held in the Grand Hôtel Hall of Mirrors in Stockholm – the original venue of the Nobel prize banquet.

The 2019 categories are:

Cell and Molecular Biology
Research in this category includes cellular and molecular processes at levels ranging from single molecule to single cell to tissue and organ systems.
Genomics, Proteomics and Systems Biology
Research in this category focuses on genomics, proteomics, integrative omics and systems biology approaches to facilitate comprehensive understanding of living cells, organisms and species.
Ecology and Environment
Research in this category encompasses interactions between organisms and their environment, and how these processes are influenced by human activity.
Molecular Medicine
Research in this category aims at building on the molecular understanding of disease in humans to develop preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, including individualized medicine.

Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India and Indo-U.S. Science & Technology Forum (IUSSTF) jointly announce the “Indo-U.S. Fellowship for Women in STEMM (WISTEMM)” (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine) program with an aim to provide opportunities to Indian Women Scientists, Engineers & Technologists to undertake international collaborative research in premier institutions in U.S.A, to enhance their research capacities and capabilities.
The Program is envisaged to:
Provide opportunity to bright Indian women students and scientists to gain exposure and access to world class research facilities in U.S. academia and labs.
Promoting research and capacity building for Indian women students and scientists in different frontline areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM).
Pave way for the next generation
Women Scientists and Technologists from India to interact with American peers, thus helping to build long-term R&D linkages and collaborations.
Encourage, motivate and provide opportunity to outstanding women students to take up research path.

Program has two modules: 
1. Women Overseas Student Internship program module

Qualification and Eligibility 

Women Overseas Student Internship: 
Eligibility: Indian women applicant currently pursuing Ph.D. degree in Basic Sciences, Engineering or Technology including Agricultural and Medical Sciences on a full-time basis at any recognized academic institution/R&D institute/university in India. 

(Note: Students currently enrolled in the first year of their Ph.D. degree or students who have submitted their thesis or likely to submit their thesis within next three months from the last date of online submission are not eligible). 

Age: 21 to 35 years (as on 17.06.2019) 

Duration of the Internship: For a period of 3-6 months Nature of Support will include : 

1. Monthly stipend of $2,500 
2. Air Fare up to $ 2,500 
3. Health Insurance of up to $500 
4. Contingency up to $1,000 

Women Overseas Fellowship: 

Eligibility: Indian women applicant having Ph.D. degree in Basic Sciences, Engineering or Technology including Agricultural and Medical Sciences and holding a regular position at any recognized academic institution/ R&D institute/ university/ college in India. 

Desirable: Applicants having research collaborative project with any Institute / Lab in U.S.A (but not visited there) will be preferred. 
(Note: Candidates who have done their Ph.D. or D.Sc. from abroad or Candidates working on any kind of fellowships or Candidates already have overseas research exposure beyond duration of three months in last five years from the last date of submission are not eligible). 

Age: 27 to 45 years ( as on 17.06.2019) 

Duration of the Fellowship: For a period of 3-6 months Nature of Support will include : 

1. Monthly stipend of $3,000 
2. Air Fare up to $ 2,500 
3. Health Insurance of up to $1,000 
4. Contingency up to $1,000 
5. Conference Allowances of up to $1,200

Indian Science Congress Best Poster Awards 2019 | Rs 5,000 besides a Certificate of Merit.

ISCA Best Poster Awards : 2019-2020

To encourage Scientists, The Indian Science Congress Association has instituted two Best Poster Awards in each Sections .These awards carry a sum of Rs.5,000 /- besides a Certificate of Merit.
Applications are invited from members (Life, Annual & Student) of the Association who have paid their subscription on or before July 15, 2019
Four copies of full length paper along with four copies of the abstract (not exceeding 100 words) must reach the office of the General Secretary (Membership Affairs) not later than September 15, 2019. At the top of each copy of the paper and its abstract, the name of the Section under which the paper is to be considered should be indicated. Along with the Four copies of paper, Four copies of the Application Form (to be downloaded from ISCA website http://www.sciencecongress.nic.in/best_poster_awards.php ) with brief bio-data of the candidate (not exceeding 2 pages), full length paper and abstract in the form of a CD must also be sent simultaneously along with the hard copies. (In MS Word, not PDF) format.
The number of authors of each poster submitted for the award shall be limited to two only. The first author of the poster shall be the presenting author. Both the authors should be the members of the Association and have paid their subscription on or before 15th July, 2019.
The research work should have been carried out in India and this has to be certified by the Head of the Institution from where the candidate is applying.
The candidate should give an undertaking that the paper being submitted has not been published in any journal or presented in any other Conference / Seminar / Symposium or submitted for consideration of any award.
A scientist shall submit only one poster in any one Section (and not a second poster on the same or any other topic in any other Section) for consideration for poster presentation award.
A person who has already received ISCA Best Poster Award in any section once will not be eligible to apply for the above Award in the same or any other section.
Incomplete Applications will not be considered.
Full length papers will be evaluated by experts and maximum twenty posters in each section will be selected for presentation during 107th Indian Science Congress.
The final selection for the Awards will be made by a duly constituted committee and the awards will be given during the Valedictory Session of 107th Indian Science Congress session on January 7, 2020
Applications submitted for the above award will not be returned.
The last date for receiving applications for the above award at ISCA Headquarters is September 15, 2019.

SreePVF offering Award of Research Grant in the Area of Biological Sciences | Rs 3 crores Grant

Award of a Competitive Research Grant in the Area of Biological Sciences 

The Sree Padmavathi Venkateswara Foundation (SreePVF), Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, incorporated under Section 7(2) and Rule 8 of the Government of India Companies Rule 2014, is a private Foundation which has been supporting excellence in medical education and care through a variety of methods. 

It has also been offering awards, donations and grants to individuals and institutions, societies and foundations, whose aims and activities are in tune with those of the Foundation. Recognizing that in addition to the government, private foundations and trusts should also support research and technology through grants, SreePVF has decided to award one such three-year research grant (of up to a total of Rs 3 crores) every year for individuals and groups engaged in the broad areas of biological and chemical sciences. 

As a first step in this direction, SreePVF invites applications this year for the award of one such grant in the area of biological sciences. 

A team of well known experts in biological sciences has kindly agreed to help the Foundation in reviewing the applications and select the one most suited for the grant. 

Applications for such a three-year grant in Biological Sciences are invited from interested individuals and teams. 

The upper age limit for the Principal Investigator is 50.

iFellowships in Biomedical Technology Innovation | BSc/MSc eligible


School of International Biodesign (SiB) is expanding its program to biannual recruitment of fellows. Applications are invited for the 2nd Batch of ‘iFellowship 2019’ at SiB commencing July 2019. The iFellowship programme is supported by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), New Delhi in collaboration with international universities.
Eligibility: Candidates with graduate or postgraduate degrees (in Medicine, Engineering, Design, Business) having passion for innovation and early-stage development of innovative medical technologies addressing the clinical needs in India are encouraged to apply. Applicants must devote 12 months for the ‘iFellowship’ program. Preference would be given to candidates who have demonstrated a track record of innovation, frugal thinking, passion for entrepreneurship and are willing to work in a team for technology and product development.
Shortlisted candidates will have to attend an in-person interview at AIIMS, New Delhi.
Benefits: iFellowship pays stipend, travel costs and health coverage. iFellows shall be mentored by faculty members who are from AIIMS Delhi, IIT Delhi, MedTech Industry, start-ups, academia, and hospitals. The program also offers post-fellowship support to promising innovators.

Created in 1998, the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Awards identify and support eminent women in science throughout the world. Each year, five Laureates are recognized for their contributions to the advancement of science, in Life Sciences or Physical Science, Mathematics and Computer Science in alternating years. 

The 2020 Awards will designate five outstanding women researchers in the Life Sciences, each working in one of the following regions: Africa and the Arab States, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America & North America. 

The Awards will be given on March 2020 in Paris to the five women selected by an international jury. Each Laureate will receive €100,000

RAMAN–CHARPAK FELLOWSHIPs 2019 for Indian PhD Students to Work in France Universities for 2-6 Months | 1 Lakh per month + Travel Expenses


RAMAN–CHARPAK FELLOWSHIP 2019 

Call for Applications 
for 
Indian & French PhD Students and French Masters’ Students 

The Raman–Charpak Fellowship program is in honour of two Nobel Laureates in Physics, Prof C.V. Raman, Indian Nobel Laureate (1930) and Prof Georges Charpak, French Nobel Laureate (1992). 

The Fellowship was launched during the State visit of the President of France to India during in February, 2013. The aim is to facilitate the exchange of doctoral students between the two countries, in order to broaden the scope and depth of future engagements in Science, Technology and Innovation. 

The Raman-Charpak Fellowship is the only Indo-French bilateral Fellowship programme jointly funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India and the French Institute in India (IFI), French Embassy in India, Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Government of France. 

This programme implemented by the Indo French Centre for Promotion of Advanced Research (IFCPAR/ CEFIPRA) aims at improving the doctoral skills of Indian and French students by providing them an opportunity to carry out part of their research work in a University / Research & Development Institute based in France or India respectively. 

This programme is now also open to French Master Students, who wish to spend some time in India in accordance to their curriculum. It aims at improving the Masters skills of French students by providing them an opportunity to carry out internship work in a University / Research Institute based in India. 

The scheme also provides an exposure and experience about the current research methods and trends in France/India, while discovering each other’s cultural context. 

This year, the two calls for French Master’s students and Indian & French PhD students are launched respectively according to the timelines provided on page 4 of this call. 

Please note: Applicants must have a pre-determined project proposal that has been discussed and agreed upon by the student and the two supervisors (Indian and French) before applying. 

TARGET GROUP 

 This fellowship programme is dedicated to highly qualified PhD students registered in an Indian or French Research Institute / University and Master Students from France. The programme offers them an excellent opportunity to carry out a part of their respective PhD/ Masters’ research project in each other countries and to further establish professional relationships, promote new S&T cooperation, and experience another cultural context 

DURATION

 Students can avail the fellowship for minimum of 2 months to maximum of 6 months

FELLOWSHIP SUPPORT 

 For Indian Fellow: Fellowship Support of 1500 Euros per month for daily expenses, local travel, accommodation charges plus Social Security charges 
 For French Fellow: Fellowship support Rs. 40,000 per month for daily expenses, local travel etc. plus accommodation charges not exceeding Rs. 45,000 per month 
 To and fro air ticket in economy class between India and France 
 Insurance coverage (travel & health) wherever is required  Any administrative costs for Visa and Registration (if any) 
 Carte de Sejour (if any) 
 A Fellow may be provided with an additional support (up to Euro 500 for Indian Fellows and equivalent support in Indian Rupees for French Fellows) for participating in a Seminar/Workshop during their term of the fellowship and stay in their host countries. The same will be limited to registration fees (if any) b) Bus/Train tickets for travel including (if any) c) accommodation charges (if any). Such claim will be provided on actual receipts, proof of participation/acceptance of paper and after the completion of fellowship duration by awarded student (at the time of TA/DA settlement) 

Please note no support will be provided for the family members during the fellowship period.

 Applicants from India must be Indian citizens residing in India and have registered for a PhD in a recognized university or research institution in India 
 Applicants from France must be residing in France and have registered for a PhD/ Master’s degree in a recognized university or research institution in France 
 Age: Maximum 30 years as on 1st April, 2019 
 Students once supported by CEFIPRA, also in the framework of CEFIPRA projects, and students who have a permanent position in institutions/universities are not eligible 
 Pre-authorization or prior consent from his/her Institute / University to apply for a foreign fellowship program

 A letter of recommendation from the Ph.D. supervisor 
 A letter of agreement from the proposed host supervisor in the fellowship lab (Foreign Research Institute / University) 
 PhD synopsis or short summary of PhD work with title (up to 2 pages only)[for PhD students] 
 Short summary of the purpose and work of the internships [for Masters’ students] 
 Research experience letter or publications, if any (first author or co-author); (kindly combine the first page of all the publications and enclose as a single PDF file) 
 No Objection Certificate from Head of the Institution. (Only for Indian Applicants)

Guidelines & Important Instructions: 

 Awarded fellows shall be invited to submit a valid travel itinerary according to their proposed duration of fellowship stated in his/her application form 
 The travel itinerary for visit will be valid only after the declaration of results and an awarded fellow shall start his/her fellowship by 31st March, 2020 (for Indian & French PhD Students) at the latest 
 A request made by a fellow for reducing or increasing the duration of the fellowship may be accepted on following conditions: 

o An increase/decrease of maximum 30 days from the proposed duration and within the guidelines of the programme. 
o The fellow has to provide a justification for such request along with the recommendation letters from their PhD & host supervisors. Hence, it is advised that candidates must carefully submit their proposed duration in their application form after consulting and discussing with their PhD and host supervisors. Please note that in total, the overall duration should not be less than 2 months and should not exceed 6 months. 
o Such request may be considered at the initial stage of awarding the fellowship and before the ticket booking. 
o Please note fellowship for more than 3 months of duration is processed through Campus France with a different procedures, hence student may carefully decide & opt for the duration of fellowship in advance 

 A fellow may be supported to participate in a Seminar/Conference/Workshop during their stay in their host countries. 

For this purpose, the fellow should provide a proof of acceptance regarding selection of their paper/poster or their participation. CEFIPRA will consider providing support for their registration, travel and stay during that period.
