ELIGIBILITY : Any candidate who has passed the Masters examination in the concerned subject with a score of not less than 55% (50% for SC / ST / BC Category) in aggregate, or have appeared in the final year examination of Masters degree in the subject concerned from Panjab University, Chandigarh or from any other University (approved by the appropriate Academic Bodies of P.U.), shall also be eligible to appear for the PhD Entrance Test.
Candidates with MA in Gandhian and Peace Studies will be considered for enrolment to PhD degree in other subjects of Arts and Social Sciences provided they clear the Entrance Test in the subject in which the enrolment is sought.
Any candidate with MSc (any branch of science) / MTech / ME (any branch of engineering) / MPharm relevant to Nanoscience and Nanotechnology would be considered as eligible to pursue PhD in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Minimum 55% marks are required in the qualifying exam and existing rules of the university will apply. Further, the final decision of enrolment will be subject to the approval by the Joint Academic Administrative Purse (JAAP) committee (subject to the approval of Syndicate/ Senate).
Exemption from entrance test :
I. Every candidate interested in admission to PhD Programme in any of the school / department / institute of Panjab University has to appear in PhD Entrance Test except the following :
(i) Candidates who have qualified UGC / CSIR (JRF) Examination / SLET / GATE examination.
(ii) Candidates who are Teacher Fellowship Holders / direct awardees of fellowship by DST (INSPIRE), ICMR or any other National Agency. In case of Science and Engineering Departments / Institutes (because of the cost of the laboratory work) it will be the decision of the Academic Committee of the Department to decide whether the candidates who have cleared SLET / PhD entrance test without fellowship be admitted to PhD Programme or not.
(iii) Sponsored Foreign Students holding valid Research Visa for doing PhD under the ICCR or other Academic Exchange Programme fellowships of Governments. However, each such case shall be decided by the Academic Committee of the concerned Department.
