DBT Project Neurobiology of fear: Involvement of CART Neuropeptide” funded by the Department of Biotechnology

Qualification/experience :Masters or equivalent with minimum 60% marks/equivalent grade and Ph.D. in any relevant area in Biological sciences.

Preference Candidates with experience in neuroanatomy or neuropharmacology, and in conducting behavioral paradigms using rodents, will be preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with good academic record and capable of managing a project independently.

Job requirement This challenging project that requires application of a range of protocols, inclusive of stereotaxy on rat model, conducting behavioral paradigms, and analyzing complex data. The RA will work as a team with JRFs and graduate students and investigate the neuranatomical-behavioral correlates underlying the processing of fear.

Tenure of the project Initially for a period of one year, extendable for further period of two years subject to satisfactory performance of the incumbent and continuation of the study project.

Project Duration: Two years and extendable for one more year.

WHO CAN APPLY

Masters' degree with first division or equivalent grade in any branch of life sciences/chemical sciences/physical sciences/biotechnology/mathematics/statistics/ computer science or allied subjects with special interest in biology; MBBS degree holders may also apply. M.Sc. candidates must hold CSIR-UGC (JRF)/DBT (JRF) /ICMR-JRF/DST/NSPIRE (fellowship certificate should be valid as on August 8th, 2011 in all the cases. DBT and ICMR fellowship conditions should allow them to work under non-DBT and non-ICMR funded projects also).

Upper age limit is 28 years as on 30.05.2011 (closing date) which is relaxable for SC/ST/OBC/Physically handicapped persons as well as woman candidates as per Govt. of India rules in this regard.

HOW TO APPLY for IGIB PhD 2011

SELECTION PROCEDURE for IGIB PhD 2011

Candidates will be intimated bye-mail to appear for a written aptitude test of two hour duration on 26.06.2011 at any of the four test centers at Delhi, Pune, Kolkata or Bangalore. Candidates should note that non-fulfillment of the eligibility criterion will result in cancellation of candidature at any stage of admission process. The written test will be aimed at evaluating abilities to comprehend, analyze and reason along with the aptitude of the candidate in biological sciences. The result of the written test will be declared on IGIB website on 28.06.2011. Successful candidates will have to appear for interviews and discussion at IGIB from 18.07.2011 - 20.07.2011 (till 4.00 p.m.). Selection of candidates for Ph.D. program will be based on performance in aptitude test and interview. The result will be declared on 21.07.2011. The selected candidates are required to join IGIB on 08.08.2011.

Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination this year may also apply; they will be admitted provisionally pending satisfactory fulfillment of the eligibility criterion latest by August 8th 2011. No TA/DA will be paid at any stage of the selection process.

The decision of the Admission Committee will be final and binding and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard. Canvassing in any form and/or bringing in any influence will be treated as a disqualification. In case of eligible candidates with already activated JRF fellowships, the consent letter from appropriate authority is to be submitted to IGIB at the time of interview otherwise the candidature is liable to cancellation.
