Call for Proposals: AI in Biology Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
 
National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) in collaboration with ICTS, Bangalore is pleased to invite applications for the AI in Biology Postdoctoral Fellowship Program.
 
This is a 2-year fellowship designed to train and support early-career researchers pursuing innovative projects integrating AI approaches with biological research.
 
Candidates are expected to develop a research proposal that fits the mandate and scope of CALIBRE, working closely with their proposed mentors at NCBS and/or ICTS. It is desirable if such fellows will have a main advisor and a co-advisor drawn from NCBS and ICTS. Fellows are expected to participate in the broader activities of CALIBRE such as teaching, workshops, conferences and outreach.
 
We encourage motivated postdoctoral researchers to apply and be part of this interdisciplinary initiative.
 
What’s Included
  • Fellows will be provided a Monthly fellowship of ₹1,25,000 per month (consolidated).
  • Additional funding support of ₹3,00,000 per year will be provided towards researchrelated expenses and travel to conferences and international scientific events.

The project involves recombinant protein expression and purification, antibody selection and engineering approaches, and immunoassay development for diagnostic applications related to antimicrobial resistance. 

The position is purely temporary and contractual, initially for one year and extendable based on satisfactory performance. 

Eligibility: Candidates must hold a Postgraduate degree (MSc/MTech) in Biotechnology, Life Sciences, or a related discipline, or a Graduate/Postgraduate degree in a professional course relevant to biotechnology, and must have been selected through CSIR-UGC NET (including Lectureship/Assistant Professorship), GATE, or through national-level examinations conducted by central government departments or agencies such as DBT, DST, ICMR, ICAR, DAE, DRDO, MOE, IITs, IISc, IISERs, NISER, etc., as per DBT/DST norms.

BRIC-Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) is an Institute of the Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council, Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India. The institute conducts innovative translational research and to develop research collaborations across disciplines and professions to translate concepts into products to improve human health. 
2. BRIC-THSTI has built several inter-institutional collaborations and connectivity with industry supported by well-trained teams of research and laboratory staff. THSTI has established various centres namely (a) Centre for Maternal and Child Health, (b) Centre for Virus Research, Therapeutics and Vaccines (c) Centre for Tuberculosis Research (d) Centre for Microbial Research, (e) Centre for Immunobiology and Immunotherapy (f) Centre for Drug Discovery (g) Clinical Development Services Agency (h) Computational and Mathematical Biology Centre (i) Centre for Bio-design and Diagnostics. These centres are strengthened by many core facilities viz. Bioassay Laboratory, Biorepository, Biosafety Level-3 Lab, Data Management Centre, Immunology Core laboratory, Multi-Omics facility, Experimental Animal Facility, Vaccine design and Development facility, Medical Research Centre, Translational Research Facility etc. that serve as huge resources for the research programmes of THSTI and also the National Capital Region Biotech Science Cluster and other academic and industrial partners. BRIC-THSTI trains the next generation of scientific leaders through many ambitious and globally competitive academic courses which promotes research and innovation through multi-disciplinary academia-industry partnerships.

2. Project Research Scientist-II

Post-Graduation degree, including the integrated PG degree, in any branch of Life Sciences from a recognized university with atleast three (3) years of post-qualification experience of working in a research lab. OR Ph.D. in any branch of Life Sciences from a recognized university.

Experience in mammalian cell culture, especially suspension culture, gene cloning and expression, protein purification, protein characterization, biochemical assays, ELISA.

4. Quality Manager 

Rs. 80,000/-

Ph.D. in any branch of Life Sciences from a recognized University with atleast three (3) years’ of post-qualification experience in the relevant field in a laboratory. OR Post-Graduation in Life Sciences with atleast eight (8) years’ of post-qualification experience in the relevant field in a laboratory. 

Note: The duration of the Ph.D. shall not be counted into experience where PostGraduation is considered the minimum qualification. 

Desirable: 
• Applicants with a strong background of hands-on data analysis from spectral data acquired on LCMS platforms will be preferred. 
• At least one publication as first author in a scientific journal.

• Experience in handling clinical samples for processing and extraction of lysates for spectral data acquisition using mass spectrometry 
• Knowledge of online database tools for analysing spectral data, and for pathway analysis. 
• Knowledge of statistical tools and machine learning algorithms for prediction, interpretation, and, representation of large datasets. 
• Development of protocols and methods for untargeted and targeted metabolomics MRM and kit based.

5. Lab Technician 

Rs. 26,000/- 

50 years

B.Sc. in any branch of Life Sciences or BMLT from a recognized University with atleast one (1) year of postqualification experience in the relevant field in a laboratory. Note: The duration of higher qualifications i.e. Master’s shall not be counted into experience. 

Desirable: 

• Experience in clinical research 
• Well versed in Good lab practice. 
• Handling and processing of clinical samples for isolation of blood derivatives 
• Scanning and storage of processed biospecimens in lab management software using digital platforms. 
• Sorting, retrieval & packing for transportation of samples to labs following IATA guidelines. 
• Should have basic knowledge of MS word and Excel for documentation of the records for reporting.
