PROJECT OBJECTIVES 

The selected candidates are expected to contribute to the following project objectives: 
1. Conserve and secure seeds of India's endemic and IUCN Red-listed plant species through systematic collection, documentation, and long-term storage. 
2. Develop a comprehensive, geo-referenced Seed Atlas mapping the distribution, ecological traits, and conservation status of collected species. 
3. Integrate and strengthen community seed banks by linking grassroots conservation efforts with national infrastructure. 
4. Facilitate research, ecological restoration, and reintroduction of threatened species by providing high-quality, viable seeds to scientific institutions. 
5. Empower local communities, farmers, and women's groups through training and capacity-building programs in seed collection, storage, and sustainable use. 
6. Ensure food and nutritional security by safeguarding plant genetic resources critical for climate resilience and sustainable agriculture. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

The selected candidates will be expected to: 

• Conduct extensive field surveys in Himalayan regions for seed collection of endemic and threatened plant species 
• Undertake seed processing, testing, documentation, and long-term storage activities 
• Work on curation of biodiversity information from literature and herbarium specimens 
• Perform seed viability testing, germination trials, and quality assessment 
• Contribute to the development of a geo-referenced Seed Atlas using GIS tools 
• Assist in training programs and capacity-building activities for community seed banks 
• Prepare technical reports, research articles, and project documentation 
• Maintain accurate databases and records of seed collections 
• Undertake any other tasks assigned by the Project Investigator (PI) Candidates with sound knowledge in plant taxonomy, seed biology, seed conservation techniques, herbarium preparation, fieldwork, GIS tools, and database management will be preferred. Call for Proposals: AI in Biology Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
 
National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) in collaboration with ICTS, Bangalore is pleased to invite applications for the AI in Biology Postdoctoral Fellowship Program.
 
This is a 2-year fellowship designed to train and support early-career researchers pursuing innovative projects integrating AI approaches with biological research.
 
Candidates are expected to develop a research proposal that fits the mandate and scope of CALIBRE, working closely with their proposed mentors at NCBS and/or ICTS. It is desirable if such fellows will have a main advisor and a co-advisor drawn from NCBS and ICTS. Fellows are expected to participate in the broader activities of CALIBRE such as teaching, workshops, conferences and outreach.
 
We encourage motivated postdoctoral researchers to apply and be part of this interdisciplinary initiative.
 
What’s Included
  • Fellows will be provided a Monthly fellowship of ₹1,25,000 per month (consolidated).

 Preparation of master cultures, mother cultures, liquid broths and mass production of biofertilizers, biofungicides, biopesticides,and decomposing cultures as per FCO standards. 
 Preparation of media and inoculums of respective microbial cultures as per requirement. 
 To prepare consortium of biofertilizers, biofungicides, biopesticides,and decomposing cultures as per demand. 
 Maintenance of pure, authentic isolated microbial cultures. 
 To formulate the final products by adding cell protectant, pH maintainer to increase shelf life and to maintain microbial count as per FCO. 
 Research related to Production of Liquid biofertilizers / biopesticide. 
 To Prepare monthly& yearly stock reports of production and supply of LBF. 
 To maintain monthly and yearly records of loose goods and finished goods. 
 Reconciliation of income and expenditure of Production unit. 
 To prepare quotations for supply of VSI’s input. 
 To analyze batch wise samples of loose and finished products for quality control.
